I was first tipped off about Hog Heaven by Susan Adcock of Pitcherlady. It's a BBQ place, appearing to be more of a shack than a restaurant from the road. On closer inspection, it's a block building with twin walk up windows that are hidden within a closed in wooden porch. The dining room is the porch, but the great Centennial Park is just across the street if you would like to dine under the trees when the weather is nice.

You won't be disappointed in the food, it's some of the best BBQ around. While I was standing in line, the lady next to me affirmed that it was some of the best to be had and that she was partial to the turkey sandwich on the onion roll. At the last minute, I made the jump for the turkey. I can recommend it as a great sandwich, being flavorful but mild in some sort of white BBQ sauce. Mark Pennington had the pulled pork sandwich and said it was one of the best around.

The baked beans are unique here, being spicy and a bit hot with a taste that reminds you of chili seasoning. Not too much, just enough to give it a nice flavor that sets it apart from the run-of-the-mill flavor. The cole slaw was a bit different too, being not creamy but still defying an explanation of a description. Not creamy, not vinegary.

If you're from out-of-town and have second thoughts when you see the looks of the place, don't fret too long. You should get up the courage and give it a try, the food is excellent.

Verdict: I'd make a special trip just to eat here.
