![]() Arthur Usher Fellig was the famous New York photographer that went by Weegee, a nickname he was called after some said he seemed to possess a 6th sense that allowed him to be one of the first to the scene of the crime. The nickname was a reference to the Ouija Board, but really his police radio was what supplied his tips and information. Weegee was a candid press photographer that shot stark black and white images of crime and murder scenes. He was self taught but Wikipedia reports that he had a showing at the Museum of Modern Art, did assignments for major magazines, and worked as an art consultant for movie production companies. He's also known for taking self-portraits, hence the tie-in with my photo of the day. In 2003, a couple of ladies were traveling through Kentucky and came upon an old trunk with papers and photos in them at a yard sale and made the purchase. As it turns out, it was an unthinkable stroke of luck- the old trunk contained photos and personal items that belonged to Weegee. The items are now at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
