4x6photo.com | Kentucky's Castle | 09 May, 2005

If you're from Central Kentucky, this is a common sight. I believe it's safe to say that the structure is Kentucky's only castle- although I guess to be true to the definition, it's really not a castle at all. There's lots of stories around, but generally it's believed that the castle-like compound was built by a fellow for his wife, but the marriage went kaput. (I should insert that this may not be true- there's many stories afoot). It sat empty for years and years with lots of talk about the mystery surrounding it. Then, in recent years, it was sold to another fellow who started renovating and finishing it. This year, the main structure caught fire and burned. On this trip, I noticed a big banner that seemed to be thanking the area residents for their support. Maybe it's being rebuilt.

I shot this scene with the intention of making a black and white. It's not exactly what I had in my minds eye, but I'm interested to know if it works for you. The skies were very blue, so my intention was something much more dramatic- but the skies keep turn blotchy on me. Made me wish for some good black and white film, with a red filter.

What do you think?
