4x6photo.com | Top Ten Shots: #8, Mud Abstract | 29 June, 2005

#8 of my Top 10 for the last year. Mud Abstract is a shot that I'm particularly proud of. The photograph was made at Portsmouth, Ohio just upriver from the bridge picture from a few days ago. The river is quite a bit alive, it never stays in one place for long. This mud found it's home in the amphitheatre on the riverbank. My son and I have a lot of fun walking around and exploring towns during sleepy weekends when everything is quiet. Portsmouth gave up quite a few pictures and provided a good relaxing time.

While the shot appears random, it did require some careful framing and planning, although that only took a few moments. If you could turn the picture around, you'd see that it doesn't work in just any position. The main line cutting downward gives the abstract picture some boldness.

One viewer said it best, "This one is peaceful to look at, if that makes sense. Very simple, but very pleasing."

(Note: The end of the first year for 4x6 is nearing. I've posted over 300 pictures, which even surprises me. Many thanks for all the encouragement, advice, arguments, and comments. I'll be posting some of my favorite shots, along with comments, from now until July 8th, which is the one year mark. I've selected 3 runners-up and the top 10. Feel free to tell me what the picture makes you feel, good or bad. That's what it's all about. )
